Profile

Mr Van Ike Asare-Odei has a rich mix of Internal Audit, Compliance, Internal Control, Operations, Commercial and Branch Banking skills spread across various segments of banking business, Capital Market and geographies over a 29 years period with Ecobank Ghana and Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (Ecobank Group).

He spent his last Ecobank employee period with Ecobank Development Corporation (EDC) Group, which has presence in 5 countries (Ghana, Nigeria, Cote D’Ivoire, Cameroun and Kenya). EDC is the Capital Market business of the parent Ecobank Group, a commercial bank with presence in over 35 countries, including France, Dubai and China. Mr Asare-Odei was the EDC Group Head of Internal Audit, and was responsible for the overall Audit function across the 5 countries, including but not limited to, representing the EDC Group on all Audit related issues with the various Regulatory Bodies, in addition to being the Secretary to the EDC Group Audit Board Committee. The businesses in EDC Group are Asset Management, Securities, Registrar Services and Investment Banking

Prior to this appointment, Mr Asare-Odei was a member of the Ecobank Group Audit department responsible for the Market Risk Audit function of the Group. Passionate about Ecobank and Africa, Mr Asare-Odei led varied multi-cultural and virtual teams on various Group assignments, including bank acquisitions in Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Sierra Leone.

Mr Asare-Odei has also held the portfolio of the Ecobank Group Head of Audit and Compliance function for West Africa Monetary Zone (WAMZ), East Africa Countries (EAC) and Southern Africa Countries (SADC) concurrently during which he built up strong Internal Audit, Internal Controls and Compliance functions.

He holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Banking Management from the University of Exeter in England. He is an Associate and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, England & Wales and Ghana.
